Someone once told me that some people are just more comfortable communicating on the phone and don’t do as well on email. To which I replied, “Yeah, people who suck at writing.” Oh snap!

These days, the only shows I watch religiously are Lost and Mad Men, but I keep up with 24 because it’s kind of fun to see whose fingernails Jack Bauer will rip out each week. Plus, the show delivers so relentlessly every single week, almost to comical effect. Because they’re cramming an entire season’s worth of ACTION! and EXCITEMENT! into a single day, you end up with “days” where the President is shot at 7 am, a nuclear bomb goes off on US soil at 9, a plane is hijacked around noon, the US invades some fake country in the afternoon, the Vice President stages a bloodless coup around dinner, terrorists release nerve gas in the Capitol building at 8, etc. It’s pure garbage, especially the last few seasons, but it’s pretty damn watchable garbage.
I always wanted to my own version of 24 where it’s not one of those days. Two-hour season premiere of Jack Bauer cooking, then eating dinner. A whole episode where it’s just him watching a Quantum Leap rerun. Maybe one where he goes to Target to buy paper towels and gets sidetracked looking at the new Playstation games. And of course an eight-episode arc where Jack Bauer gets a good night’s sleep.
That would be true reality television.
Hello, and thanks for joining us for the new, souped up Urban Blah 2.0. It was just over a year ago that we started publishing the comic, so we decided to make a few changes as we begin Year 2. What’s new?
- As you can tell from reading this, we now have a blog to accompany the comics. (The Urban Blog?) We’ll try to deliver more fun and funny there.
- Saucy new banner.
- New publishing schedule: every Monday and Thursday. With additional blog entries along the way (hopefully).
- If you ever had reason to, you can now search the transcripts of the comics. So if you search for, say, burger, you’ll get all comics that mention burgers. Fancy.
- You can sign up to get the Urban Blah in your inbox with every new comic. Click here to subscribe.
- It’s not new, but you can also join our facebook fan page. Maybe we’ll put some secret stuff on there to make it worth your while.
- And if you love the Urban Blah so much you want to wear it on a T-shirt, well, we can accommodate you there, as well.
Other than that, it’s more of the same sense of humor we’ve delivered through the first 130 comics or so. Hope you’ll be back for this year’s hot 100!
